On the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the event promoted by AMACI, GAMeC offers the public activities related to its Collections and the Thinking Like a Mountain project.

GAMeC – Galleria d’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea di Bergamo joins the Giornata del Contemporaneo, the great event promoted by AMACI – Association of Italian Contemporary Art Museums and staged with the support of the General Directorate for Contemporary Creativity of the Ministry of Culture and with the collaboration of the General Directorate for Public and Cultural Diplomacy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.
On Saturday, October 12, GAMeC will be open free of charge from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., allowing the public to visit new projects in the fall programming including collections, exhibitions and video works.
Spazio Zero features a selection of works exhibited as part of the ninth edition of the Biennale Gherdëina – The Parliament of Marmots – curated by Lorenzo Giusti, which explored the themes of the wild, multi-speciesism and mountains through the participation of artists from different geographical areas of continental Europe and the Mediterranean.
Through a selection of recent works-paintings, sculptures, video works, photographs, and drawings-the itinerary in GAMeC rediscovers the themes of the exhibition in Val Gardena, focusing in particular on the possibility of a cultural and political mending between the Alps and the Mediterranean. Works that project us into an extended, geological, metamorphic time, in which geographic boundaries are lost and in which seas, deserts and mountains rediscover their common origin, while ancient narratives, projected into the reality of our time, define new trajectories of meaning, interweaving reflection on origins with thinking about possible new forms of existence and cohabitation.
On display are the works of Talar Aghbashian, Alex Ayed, Ismaïl Bahri, Yesmine Ben Khelil, Nadim Choufi, Elmas Deniz, Esraa Elfeky, Andro Eradze, Marianne Fahmy, Daniele Genadry, Shuruq Harb, Katia Kameli, Laurent Le Deunff, and Janis Rafa.
Simultaneously, the video work En Ausencia by Caterina Erica Shanta, selected by GAMeC for the sixteenth edition of Artists’ Film International, the traveling film program curated and presented collectively by fifteen international contemporary art institutions, will be presented.
For this edition, GAMeC and other network partners have commissioned or selected recent films by authors who respond to the theme of “solidarity.” Viewing solidarity as a collective form of resistance, union, and interdependence, the films presented address the ways in which this is sought and enacted on micro and macro scales, and cultivate radical imaginaries that have the potential to transform our broader collective experience.
And again, the show Una Galleria, Tante Collezioni, which places in dialogue more than 150 works from the museum collections created by Italian and international 20th-century masters and contemporary artists-Giacomo Balla, Chiara Bersani, Alberto Burri, Giorgio de Chirico, Latifa Echakhch, Lucio Fontana, Daiga Grantina, Wassily Kandinsky, Giacomo Manzù, Regina, Auguste Rodin, Tomás Saraceno, and Andy Warhol.
