From 23 March to 24 July 2011, GAMeC will host the exhibition ‘La classe non è acqua’, part of the international project ARTools, which will juxtapose the works of 100 students of the schools of Bergamo with the works of 9 important contemporary artists.
Conceived by GAMeC, ARTools (Art as tool for understanding contemporary) won the Europe-wide competition organized by EACEA(Education, Audiovisual and Culture Executive Agency) and is realized in partnership with three other European museums: CIAP, Centre International d’Art & du Paysage, Île de Vassivière (France), Malmö Konsthall, Malmö (Sweden), Mucsarnok Kunsthalle, Budapest (Hungary), each of which has developed an educational program related to culture and art.
At GAMeC, four classes from Bergamo schools will play a leading role in the project and discuss the work of nine important international artists (Carla Accardi, Stefano Arienti, Joseph Beuys, Allan Kaprow, William Kentridge, Michelangelo Pistoletto, Cindy Sherman, Thomas Schütte and Andy Warhol), chosen for their ability to anticipate and interpret the global sociocultural evolution as well as their profound ties with their native countries and history, of which they have been active interpreters and leading figures.
In the exhibition – curated by Giacinto Di Pietrantonio – the works of the nine artists will be exhibited alongside the efforts of the young people involved in the project.
The students’ work will launch a stimulating, profound and unconventional discussion that will confirm what and how these great artists – milestones of contemporary art – interface with the new generations.
The thrilling interaction of students with great artists will be channelled through important subjects such as ecology, prejudice, the relationship with antiquity, discrimination, the visual culture, reconciliation and the individual’s active role in society.
The classes involved in the project are:
– class II A of the Gianni Rodari Primary School, led by Giovanna Canavesi
– class II C of the Istituto Comprensivo Donadoni Middle School, led by Carla Quarti
– classes III D and IV D of the Giacomo e Pio Manzù Art High School, led respectively by Giulio Albrigoni, Annarosa Valsecchi and Mario Albergati
and they will be followed by Sem Galimberti, Daniela Di Gennaro, Alessandra Rizzi and Cristiana Capelli, Museum Educators at GAMeC.
