On the occasion of the great event promoted by AMACI, GAMeC is offering a free participatory visit to the exhibition Anri Sala. Transfigured aimed at boys and girls who are or will come of age this year.
Free admission from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
As every year, GAMeC joins the Giornata del Contemporaneo, the great event promoted by AMACI – Association of Italian Contemporary Art Museums, and held with the support of the Directorate-General for Contemporary Creativity of the Ministry of Culture, as well as the collaboration of the Directorate-General for Public and Cultural Diplomacy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.
In its eighteenth edition – which will take place as per norm throughout the country, involving museums, foundations, public and private institutions, galleries, studios and artists’ spaces – the Giornata del Contemporaneo will be back in October, aiming to showcase the renewed vigour of contemporary art in Italy, in the wake of the restrictions imposed by the two-year pandemic. However, the event will maintain a hybrid format – both physical and digital – to encourage and enhance potential participation with both online and offline offerings, and will revolves around the theme of ecology, bound up with that of sustainability: global issues that place us before the need to rethink the contemporary art system through a renewed awareness and a more widespread sensitivity towards the theme.
For the occasion, as part of the exhibition Anri Sala. Transfigured, which can be visited with free admission from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., at 3 p.m. GAMeC is offering a free participatory visit aimed at boys and girls who are or will become of age this year.
The starting point of the tour, which will take place between the loggia of Bergamo’s Palazzo della Ragione and the Sala delle Capriate, will be the image of dawn, a reference to the audio-visual installation Time No Longer and, at the same time, a metaphor for the important phase of life of the people involved.
Each participant will produce a sound with his or her own voice, as if it were a musical instrument, and will walk through the space of the loggia sixteen times in a performative key, starting from an always different point. Paths and possibilities of encounter will thus be created, and each connection will be experienced as a goal that can generate different sounds, stories and proposals.
The interactions will have to be at least 17, a number that recalls the goals of Agenda 2030 for a world increasingly focused on sustainability, a key theme of the 2022 edition of the Giornata del Contemporaneo.
The visit will continue inside the Sala delle Capriate, marked by the experimentation and the creation of two other paths, guided by the sound of the clarinet and saxophone of the composition Quartet for the End of Time, protagonist of Anri Sala’s work; transfigured in the dark, these will generate, at the end of the activity, words intended for oral and choral sharing that will close the visit and trace a new beginning.

AMACI and GAMeC invite museums, foundations, public and private institutions, galleries, exhibition spaces, artists’ studios, cultural associations and all entities that promote contemporary art to open to the public free of charge on Saturday, October 8, 2022, and to present artists, new ideas or research, through exhibitions, guided tours, workshops and meetings, with the aim of highlighting the network of contemporary art in Italy and abroad.
Once again this year, the Giornata del Contemporaneo will in fact be extended abroad from Saturday 8 October to Friday 14 October 2022 thanks to the diplomatic-consular network of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, comprising embassies, consulates and Italian Cultural Institutes. In collaboration with the Directorate-General for Public and Cultural Diplomacy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and thanks to the support of the Directorate-General for Contemporary Creativity of the Ministry of Culture, the participation of AMACI directors and managers will be encouraged in events organised by the Farnesina’s foreign network and by contemporary art-related organisations operating in the countries of reference.
To take part in the 2022 edition of the Giornata del Contemporaneo, you will need to register for the event by 7 October 2022, using the registration form available at the following link: https://giornatadelcontemporaneo.amaci.org/it, held in collaboration with Artshell.
