GAMeC is developing its new app, created with the support of Regione Lombardia, Fondazione Cariplo, and Unioncamere Lombardia, and co-funded by the European Regional Development Fund as part of the InnovaCultura 2024 grant program, which supports initiatives aimed at enhancing interaction with cultural heritage through innovative technological solutions.
Developed by Hidonix, a company specialized in digital platforms for the cultural sector, the app promotes a participatory, sustainable, and innovation-oriented cultural model.
Key features include:
– Interactive maps and indoor/outdoor navigation, to help visitors easily find their way inside and outside the museum
– Augmented reality and automatic artwork recognition
– Automatic translation and text-to-speech, for smooth use by international audiences
– Video guides in Italian Sign Language (LIS) and audio descriptions, ensuring accessibility for visitors with sensory disabilities while enriching the experience for all audiences
– Narratives and in-depth content designed to engage the public through diverse storytelling formats
In addition to offering a more accessible and engaging museum experience, the app allows users to visit GAMeC remotely — even offline — making art accessible anytime, anywhere.
It also serves as a versatile educational tool, suitable for both classroom use and museum visits, encouraging curiosity and active student participation.
Moreover, the use of digital maps and virtual guides contributes to environmental sustainability by reducing the need for printed materials.
As GAMeC prepares to open its new headquarters, the app marks a significant step in the museum’s digital evolution: a dynamic tool designed to strengthen the connection between contemporary art and the community, fostering an increasingly open and participatory dialogue.
