GAMeC is taking part in the Giornata del Contemporaneo, the major event promoted by AMACI – Associazione dei Musei d’Arte Contemporanea Italiani and realized with the support of the Directorate-General for Contemporary Creativity of the Ministry of Culture, in collaboration with the Directorate-General for Public and Cultural Diplomacy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.

Now in its twenty-second edition, the Giornata del Contemporaneo will once again involve museums, foundations, public and private institutions, galleries, artists’ studios, and art spaces across Italy, showcasing the vitality of contemporary art in our country. Once again this year, to encourage and value the broadest possible participation, the event will maintain a hybrid format, combining physical and digital initiatives, with online and offline offerings.

On Saturday, October 10, the venue in Via San Tomaso will be open with free admission from 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM, allowing the public to visit the exhibition 1000 Tears by Selma Selman and the collection display Una Galleria, Tante Collezioni; the installation Tabula Plena at the Palazzo della Ragione will also remain open until 8:00 PM.

1000 Tears is the first institutional solo exhibition in Italy by the artist Selma Selman (Bihać, 1991), one of the most significant voices on the international art scene. Selman weaves autobiographical experience and social reflection to address issues of belonging, representation, marginalization, discrimination, and war, exploring the possibility of imagining alternative forms of existence. The project, set up in Spazio Zero, features graphic works that translate stories and fragments of life into imagery suspended between reality and fiction, works on metal, a new iteration of the Letters to Omer project, and an excerpt from the film Crossing the Blue Bridge, in which the artist recalls an episode from her childhood.

Una Galleria, Tante Collezioni unfolds across nine exhibition rooms and showcases the richness and eclecticism of the city of Bergamo’s modern and contemporary art heritage. The display aims to bring out the differences among the distinct nuclei that make up the museum’s collections, establishing a dialogue between works by Italian and international 20th-century masters and creations by contemporary artists: Giacomo Balla, Chiara Bersani, Giorgio de Chirico, Latifa Echakhch, Wassily Kandinsky, Giacomo Manzù, Andrea Mastrovito, Regina, Tomás Saraceno, and Rachel Whiteread, to name just a few.

At the Palazzo della Ragione in Città Alta, visitors can explore the installation Tabula Plena by Fosbury Architecture and Claire Fontaine, which transforms the Sala delle Capriate into a place for meeting and experimentation. GAMeC’s museum educators will guide you through the three free, permanent workshop stations animating the platform. Designed by the Education Department together with Adelita Husni Bey, Numero Cromatico, and the URPS (Ufficio Resurrezione Parole Smarrite) by Sabrina D’Alessandro, these workshops are created to reflect on contemporary education, emerging technologies, and the power of imagination.

AMACI and GAMeC invite museums, foundations, public and private institutions, galleries, exhibition spaces, artists’ studios, cultural associations, and all entities promoting contemporary art to open their doors to the public for free on Saturday, October 10, 2026, and to present artists, new ideas, or research through exhibitions, guided tours, workshops, and talks, with the aim of bringing into focus the contemporary art network in Italy and abroad.

To participate in the 2026 edition of the Giornata del Contemporaneo, registration is required by October 9 using the form available on the website amaci.org
