Marcello Fois presents his novel L’immensa distrazione (Einaudi), winner of the 2026 Campiello Prize, at GAMeC.
The book’s protagonist is Ettore Manfredini, who, immediately following his death, retraces his own existence and the history of his Emilian family—a lineage whose story spans the twentieth century through bonds, silences, ambitions, and guilt. In a constant interplay between personal memory and collective history, the novel explores what is handed down from generation to generation and what, conversely, remains hidden, intentionally omitted, or misunderstood.
Part of the Pedagogia della Speranza (Pedagogy of Hope) Public Program, the event offers an opportunity to reflect on the power of stories in building awareness: looking at the past, recognizing its legacies and its omissions, can open up new possibilities for relationships and for imagining the future.
